Origin of the Thai Vi Temple Festival 

Thai Vi Temple is located in Van Lam village, Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province. The temple worships 4 kings of the Tran dynasty, namely Tran Thai Tong, Tran Thanh Tong, Tran Nhan Tong, Tran Anh Tong and Hien Tu Hoang Thai Queen.

It is said that this was the place where the mandarins entered and reported before entering the Vu Lam palace. Reported to the Tran kings here. On the morning of March 15 (lunar calendar), the villages of the former general Vu Lam all carried their village’s holy palanquin to Cac communal house to sacrifice.

First, in the village of Khe Dau (upper and lower), the elder’s village carries the holy palanquin through the villages: Xuan Ang, Kha Luong, Hanh Cung, Ha Trao, Tuan Cao, to which village the palanquin continues to enter. The whole village of Dau (Khanh Hoa, Yen Khanh) worshiping Prince Ngu Cau Vuong and Princess Huyen Tran of the Tran Dynasty also brought it here. When the sacrifice was finished at Cac communal house, Van Lam village, the celebrants carried a palanquin to the Thai Vi temple to sacrifice to the Tran kings. After the ceremony was over, there was Ca Cong singing. Singing Ca Cong consists of a person playing the lemon lute, a woman singing in a sassy ao dai, one red and one blue, praising the merits of the Tran kings.
